Practical healthspan guide

Dental health as part of pet healthspan

Oral comfort affects eating, behavior and quality of life. Prevention, home care and professional assessment have different roles.

Step 1

Visible teeth are not the whole assessment

A conscious examination can identify concerns, but complete evaluation of hidden structures may require anesthesia, probing and intraoral radiography.

Step 2

Home care supports, not replaces, assessment

Effective home oral hygiene can reduce plaque accumulation between professional evaluations, but it does not diagnose or treat established disease.

Step 3

Plan for the individual

Age alone does not decide whether a procedure is appropriate. The veterinary team considers the pet's health, pain, expected benefit and anesthetic plan.
